Abstract
Punjabi is rich, strong and ancient language with history that spans centuries. Its one of the major languages of the world. It been the language of developed and cultured civilizations in the past but today its deprived of its due respect and place even at its own home land. Its speakers are adopting other languages, thinking that Punjabi might be a hindrance in their development. While it is known fact today that nations can make progress only when they adopt native languages for learning and in daily life. France, Germany, Russia, China, Korea and Japan are its examples. A language is the recognition and respect of a nation. It preserves its cultural heritage. Rise and fall of a nation is directly connected to its language. Very serious concerns about the place given to language fight a lot for it. Our strugle must start with embracing language with pride. By valuing and promoting Punjabi not only honour roots and enhance individual identities but also commands respect from others. Secondly responsibilities lies on people who can write, speak and manage to take appropriate steps for promotion of Punjabi. Thirdly, its important to communicate these concern to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for promoting Punjabi at the Government level.
