Abstract

Bhakti movement was a powerful phenomenon in history of Punjab. Unfortunately there was no authentic written reference in Shah Mukhi Punjabi which provides a comprehensive introduction of this dominant theoretical and religious movement of India. This article provides a brief sketch of this movement. Firstly it examines the root of the word "Bhakti". Secondly it provides some authentic and coherent definitions of Bhakti. Thirdly it introduces very shortly with the types of Bhakti. At the end of this article researchers make an attempt to know the origins of Bhakti movement. Collectively this article provides a comprehensive overview of Bhakti movement.
